Our ancient pious scriptures talked about Gods, Goddesses, Sages, Kings, Queens and their subjects all having their own important places in the society that they were a part of. We have seen the importance of herbal medications that were used in these mythological eras. But we have never really seen the importance animals were given during the times. Some animal Gods also exist in the Hindu mythology including Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, etc. Now why did the topic of animals come up while discussing medicinal herbs and Gods and Kings? Here’s why:
Ayurveda isn’t just for humans; it is available for animals too. In the present day scenario, pets are not just animals that stay around in the house; they are a part of the family. In fact, we might just spend a lot more on our pets over their shampoos, medications, vaccinations and so on. So if humans can resolve to using Ayurveda as one of the best form of medicines, their pets can too!
Though it is a growing field it is increasing in popularity with the growth in Animal Spas with specialized animal treatments, massages, aroma therapy, acupuncture, and so on. There are a few universities also offering specialized courses in Veterinary Ayurveda.
There are already products specialized for animals in Ayurveda that are available in the market. How well it will be made use of and to what extent is something that we need to wait and see with time!
